Why can’t sound waves move through empty space, unlike light waves?

Sound waves are mechanical waves that propagate across a material medium (e.g., air, water, solids). They use the compression and rarefaction of particles in the medium to convey energy. Sound waves cannot propagate in the absence of a medium, such as space or a vacuum, since the wave has no particles with which to interact.
