After the Cuban Revolution’s success in 1959, a socialist government was established in Cuba under the leadership of Fidel Castro. The Cuban government got closer to the Soviet Union and embraced Marxist-Leninist ideals. By 1961, Castro had formally declared Cuba a socialist state, associating it with the communist bloc during the Cold War.
