Operation Verano, also known as La Ofensiva (“The Offensive”), was a major military campaign launched by Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista‘s forces in the summer of 1958. The operation aimed to defeat Fidel Castro’s guerrilla forces, who gained strength in the Sierra Maestra mountains during the Cuban Revolution.
