What was the “House of Wisdom”?

The House of Wisdom, also known as the Grand Library of Baghdad, was primarily recognized as a major intellectual center and public library during the Abbasid era. It served as a major center of learning, scholarship, and translation, particularly during the 9th and 10th centuries, where scholars from various cultural and religious backgrounds gathered to translate and preserve works of knowledge from different civilizations. Baghdad became a major center for the translation and development of Greek texts in the Islamic world, housing a “House of Wisdom” with thousands of manuscripts as early as 832.
