Constantinople is the historical name for the city now known as Istanbul, located in modern-day Turkey. For more than a millennium, the city served as the Byzantine Empire’s capital. After the Ottoman conquest in 1453, Constantinople was renamed Istanbul, which is still one of Turkey’s most populous cities today.
