The cup with the inscription “I am the cup of Nestor” was found on Ischia, on the Bay of Naples.
Giorgio Buchner discovered it in Tomb 168 of the San Martano Cemetery on the Italian island of Ischia in 1954. The vase is currently housed at the Archaeological Museum of Pithekoussai on Ischia.
The cup’s inscription claiming to be “the cup of Nestor” refers to Nestor, a character from Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey.
