What is faience?

Faience is a non-clay ceramic substance popular among the ancient Egyptians. It is made of silica, lime, and soda, and it frequently incorporates a colorant, with copper being a popular choice. Egyptians utilized faience to make a variety of artifacts like beads, tiles, figures, and small crafts. The material had a glass-like appearance and was thought to be a form of synthetic semi-precious stone. It was manufactured by putting a paste made of powdered ingredients into a clay core, which was then burnt to produce the finished faience piece.
