“Operation Vijay” refers to the conflict between India and Pakistan in 1999, commonly known as the Kargil War.
The conflict stemmed from the infiltration of Pakistani soldiers and militants into Indian territory across the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the Indian-administered and Pakistani-administered parts of Kashmir. The infiltrators occupied strategic heights in the Kargil sector, posing a direct threat to Indian forces and civilian areas. In response to the incursion, the Indian military launched “Operation Vijay” with the primary objective of evicting the intruders and reclaiming the occupied territory. The operation aimed to ensure the integrity and security of Indian territory in the region.
