In which layer of Earth’s atmosphere is the International Space Station (ISS) located?

The International Space Station (ISS) circles Earth in the thermosphere. The ISS orbits the Earth at an altitude of about 400 to 410 kilometers above the surface. The density of air molecules in the thermosphere is quite low, hence heat energy is not successfully transferred to spacecraft or other objects. The thermosphere is a suitable location for the ISS because it maintains relatively constant orbital circumstances while allowing access to the space environment for scientific inquiry and technical advancement.
