The dew point is the temperature at which air is saturated with moisture and water vapor condenses into liquid, resulting in dew.
When air is cooled to its dew point, the moisture inside condenses into liquid water. This process can be viewed in a variety of ways:
Dew: When temperatures drop at night, condensation forms on surfaces (such as grass or cars), generating little droplets of water.
Frost: When the temperature dips below freezing, the dew point is known as the frost point. In this situation, water vapor goes directly from gas to solid, a process known as deposition, resulting in frost.
Fog and Clouds: When air cools to its dew point in the atmosphere, collected water droplets form clouds or fog depending on their altitude. Fog is a low-level cloud that reduces visibility.
