Oganesson, formerly known as element 118, has an atomic number of 118. It is the element with the highest atomic number on the periodic table. It was initially synthesized in 2002 by a team of Russian and American scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia.
