World AIDS Day on 1 December provides an opportunity for individuals and communities worldwide to reflect on the global impact of the AIDS pandemic and to unite in the fight against HIV.World AIDS Day was designated on 1 December 1988. It has been observed annually since then to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and to mourn those who have died of the disease.
