Chickenpox is primarily spread through airborne droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also be transmitted through direct contact with the fluid from chickenpox blisters. Chickenpox is caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV), a member of the herpesvirus family.
