Who coined the term “chromosome”?

The term “chromosome” was coined by the German anatomist Heinrich Wilhelm Waldeyer. He introduced this term to the earlier term “chromatin” introduced by Walther Flemming. In addition to coining the name “chromosome” in 1888, he made significant studies about the basophilic stained threads, now known as chromatin, within the nucleus.
