Who discovered cosmic rays?

An Austrian physicist, Victor Hess is credited with discovering cosmic rays in 1912. He made this discovery while flying high-altitude balloons to investigate radiation levels in the Earth’s atmosphere. 

His discovery of cosmic rays earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1936.
