The Dawn spacecraft was the first to visit a dwarf planet, namely Ceres.
The Dawn spacecraft launched by NASA as part of the Discovery Program, entered orbit above Vesta on July 16, 2011, and conducted a 14-month study before departing for Ceres in late 2012. Dawn began to orbit around Ceres on March 6, 2015. The mission was originally scheduled for nine years, but NASA extended it until the probe’s hydrazine fuel supply ran out, which occurred in 2018.
