M. S. Swaminathan is widely regarded as the “Father of the Indian Green Revolution” for his instrumental role in introducing and promoting high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice in India during the 1960s and 1970s. He served as the Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and as the Minister of Agriculture in the Indian government.
M. S. Swaminathan has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to agriculture and rural development. These include the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, two of India’s highest civilian honors, as well as the World Food Prize and the Albert Einstein World Award of Science.
